THE RABBIT
María Jímenez
María Jiménez was born on February 2, 1962, in San Martin Tilcajete, Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca. Dedicated to her work since she was 28 years old, she intricately paints various figures (mostly rabbits), with floral, butterfly, and dove motifs.
In the workshop she shares with her brothers Candido, Alberto and Aaron, Maria paints the wood carvings that her brothers create, figures such as rabbits, pigs, toucans, gazelles, dogs, and of course angels and virgins. Her smooth brushwork is considered naïve and because of her uniquely colorful and beautifully detailed painting, her works are widely collected.
